Box Office Analysis

Here are the top 5 movies for the weekend of December 10, 2008:

1. Beverly Hills Chihuahua 17.5 million

2. Quarantine 14.2M

3. Body of Lies 13.1M

4. Eagle Eye 11.0M

5. Nick and Norah's Infinite
Playlist 6.5M

The popularity of Beverly Hills Chihuahua may be due to people seeking light entertainment in the wake of the bad economy, wars, etc. Quarantine did fairly well possibly because of the ongoing love of horror films. The experts expected Body of Lies to be the top movie of the weekend. However, the public is tired of war, and this 70,000,000 dollar film is in trouble.

People may also be getting tired of Russell Crowe and Leonardo di Caprio. The exciting Eagle Eye continues to soldier on. Nick and Norah, based on a bestselling young adult novel, has a small cult following. It should do well on DVD.

See you at the movies.

Body of Lies

It looks like the new spy thriller "Body of Lies", starring Leonardo di Caprio and Russell Crowe, will be the big new movie this weekend. Most experts predict that it will gross between 20 and 30 million for the three days starting Friday. I do not plan to see it so if you do, please post a comment telling us how you liked it. You may also tell us what your favorite di Caprio and/or Crowe movie is.

"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" is now out on DVD. This is my second favorite movie of the year so far, and my second favorite Indiana Jones film (next to Raiders of the Lost Ark). Directed by Steven Spielberg, "Crystal Skull" stars Harrison Ford, Karen Allen, and Shia Labeouf. The movie is bolstered by some powerhouse special effects. I highly recommend Indiana Jones IV.

Welcome

Welcome to my new blog, Harden's Movie News.

I will attempt to keep you up to date in the world of movies. Included will be reviews of movies that I see. Please feel free to add your own news and reviews, and to state your opinions on the cinematic world.

First off, are there any new movies you would like to recommend? One I have seen recently is "Eagle Eye". This movie blew me away and if you have not seen it yet, see it now. Although the story is not terribly original, the way the director uses his cast, editing and visuals make "Eagle Eye" well worth watching.

Right now I am looking forward to seeing "Quantum of Solace", the new James Bond movie. What do you think of Daniel Craig as the new 007? Who is your favorite Bond? (Before you give the stock answer, Sean Connery, try to look at the other actors who have played this role.) What is your favorite Bond movie and why.

That's it for now. See you at the movies.
